Hand-fasting can be an alternative to a traditional style wedding or can indeed be incorporated into any wedding. Hand-fasting is used in a variety of ceremonies today from the renewing of vows, to first weddings, to accept a bond that lasts as long as the love endures.
It is sometimes referred to as tying the knot and dates back thousands of years and, is therefore, an ancient ceremony which is steeped in tradition.
The binding together of the bride and groom’s hands - right to right and left to left – is the central part of any handfasting ceremony and can be done just before the vows are said to show love and commitment to each other.
These types of weddings can be conducted anywhere you wish and indeed, it is not unusual to take place in the mystical Wiltshire countryside in places such as Stonehenge and Avebury but can also be done in the comfort of your own surroundings.
These hands are the hands of your lover, partner and best friend.
They’re strong and full of love for you.
As you hold each other’s hands on your wedding day/on your vow renewal day,
You are about to promise to love each other, today, tomorrow and forever……
